Presidential Management Fellows Program - Class of 2013 Application Announcement

Please encourage excellent graduate students and recent alumni interested in government service and public policy to explore the Presidential Management Fellowship program. PMF Fellows are selected from many disciplines.

A program description with application information is below: the announcement went to all current graduate students today.

The Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program is a prestigious two-year paid government fellowship sponsored by the Office of Personnel Management for recent graduate students who seek a two-year fellowship in a United States government agency. Following the conclusion of the two-year fellowship, PMFs have the opportunity to convert their fellowship into a full-time permanent position.

The PMF program Class of 2013 application period will open on Monday, November 5 and close on Monday, November 19, 2012, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time. The entire application process, including submission of all necessary documents, must be completed during this time period.

New This Year:
Students can now apply directly for the PMF – institutions are not required to have a nomination process as in years past.

You can apply not only if you complete your degree requirements in 2012-13, but also if you
are a two-year alumnus/alumna who obtained your degree between Nov 5, 2010-2012.

 The Program:

The PMF program attracts outstanding men and women from a variety of academic disciplines and career paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs.  Fellows engage in solving domestic and international issues including, but not limited to, Public Administration, Foreign Policy, Technology, Science, Criminal Justice, Health, and Financial Management. Students can use this two-year paid fellowship as a stepping stone to highly visible and respected leadership positions in the Federal Government. You'll get full salary and benefits as well as challenging assignments, rotations, feedback on your work plus an opportunity to make government work better.

Eligibility:

·         If you will meet all graduate degree requirements (even though you have not necessarily graduated), including the completion or successful defense of any required thesis or dissertation (as required), during the academic year 2012 - 2013, you are eligible to apply for the PMF Class of 2013. Eligibility is based on completion of current graduate work by August 31, 2013.

·         As a graduate student from any academic discipline and expected to complete an advanced degree (graduate or professional) from a qualifying college or university during the current academic year, you are eligible to apply.

·         If you obtained your advance degree from a qualifying college or university no more than 2 years prior to the opening date of the announcement for the Class of 2013 application, you are eligible to apply.

·         Opportunities for Federal employment for non-United States citizens through the PMF Program are extremely rare.  Click here for more information.

·         Veterans receive preference in the application process:  click here for more details.

·         There is no age limit.

Process:
Applying to the Program is only the first step in becoming a PMF. After you apply, you must take an online assessment. If you score at a sufficiently high level on the online assessment, are found eligible, and your application is complete, you will be deemed a Semi-Finalist and invited to the in-person assessment. Then, if you are selected as a Finalist, you'll be eligible to be appointed to a participating agency in a PMF position.

Getting Started:

Please read carefully the information on the PMF website. The Frequently Asked Questions page is a good place to start.

Applicants will have two ways to find the application. At USAJOBS, simply search "Presidential Management Fellows," or go to the PMF website and select the link found under the Application Process/How to Apply webpage.

Interested applicants can join the PMF Listserv for important updates regarding the PMF Class of 2013 and future applications. You can also visit Become a PMF regularly for the most up-to-date information.

Notify Us:

If you decide to apply, please let me know.  We have NAU alumni who have been PMF Fellows, and I can arrange to put our 2012-13 applicants in touch with them for an info session if there is interest.
