Program description

The Leaders in Exceptional-education Addressing Diversity, Research and Service LEADERS grant at NAU will offer financial support to a limited number of scholars who pursue a Curriculum and Instruction (C &I) Ph.D. program with a focus in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Exceptional (CLDE) education.

LEADERS Cohort begins in January 2019 and ends by May 2023. Courses are on-line in spring and fall semester and in person in summer. A mandatory in-person seminar of approximately one week in length funded by the grant is held in Flagstaff each spring and fall. Comprehensive exams and a dissertation of each scholar's research related to CLDE students are required to complete the doctorate.

The LEADERS grant provides funding for tuition, books, travel to campus in summer, and summer campus housing.

Enrichment seminars with nationally known researchers in culturally diverse special education are an integral part of this doctoral program. After graduation, LEADERS graduates are prepared and expected to take positions at colleges or universities as full time special education faculty.
